DO YOUR PART TO REDUCE WASTE AND RECYCLE YOUR OLD TELEPHONE BOOK
Salinas Ca….October, 2001….The new phone books have arrived! It's great to get that new shiny clean book with updated listings. But what do you do with last year's somewhat worn and tattered phone book?
Although readily recyclable, a great deal of paper still ends up in local landfills because people place it in with their garbage by mistake. Phone books are a good example.
Remember that phone books are recyclable and should be set out with your mixed paper. Please remove any plastic wrapping material before adding phone books to your curbside containers.
In addition to recycling, it is important to practice waste reduction measures. Many households receive more phone books than they need. The phone company delivers one set of phone books for each phone line at an address, including fax and modem lines. Even if a line has been disconnected, the same number of phone books may be delivered unless a specific request is made to reduce that number. If you are receiving more phone books than you need, call Pacific Bell Directory at (800) 848-8000.
The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA), and the local trash haulers are working together to make it easy for you to recycle your old phone books. If you do not have curbside recycling, or if your apartment or business does not have recycling containers, recycle your old phone book at one of the following locations:
