SVSWA EXTENDS LEASE TO LOCAL ARCHERY CLUB
The Board of Directors of the Salinas Valley
Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA) have authorized a five-year license agreement
with Salinas Bowman, Inc. for property located at the Crazy Horse Canyon
Road Landfill.
Salinas Bowman, a member of the National Field
Archery Association, has leased an area on the Crazy Horse Landfill for
recreational archery activities from the City of Salinas since 1966 for
$1 per year. The agreement transferred to the Authority with the sale
of Crazy Horse Landfill and was approved by the Board on June 24, 1999.
The current agreement will maintain similar
terms of $1 per year and the Board has urged the Club to continue to expand
and perpetuate the art of field archery to the youth of the Salinas Valley.
The lease agreement will continue until August 31, 2007.
Since May 2001, the Bowman Club have
provided free recreational archery training to area youth and have opened
their range to the Police Athletic League (PAL), the Boys & Girl Scouts,
numerous Monterey County schools, and have held numerous charity events
to benefit the local community.
During the term of the lease, the
Club wishes to make improvements, at the Club’s expense, to the
existing facility in an effort to more effectively promote the sport of
archery. These improvements are planned to include rebuilding target houses,
fence replacement, building a sand pit range and improvements to the main
road.
The Authority,
formed in 1997, is a joint powers agency made up of the cities of Gonzales,
Greenfield, King City, Salinas, Soledad as well as the eastern half of
unincorporated Monterey County. They promote the environmental health
of the Salinas Valley through planning, public education and management
of an innovative solid waste system. The Authority can be reached at 755-1300
from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday or on the web at www.svswa.org.
