The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA) will be establishing
a Solid Waste Disposal Facilities Task Force.

The Salinas Valley Solid
Waste Authority (SVSWA) will be establishing a Solid Waste Disposal Facilities
Task Force.
This 8-member Ad-Hoc Committee will assist
the Authority with the identification, evaluation and development of potential
disposal sites with the objective of providing at least 35 years of supplemental
landfill capacity.
The Task Force, developed in conjunction
with the approved project for the Regional Solid Waste Facilities Expansion,
will be comprised of two members from the general public, two representatives
of the agricultural industry, and two City and two County representatives
from the Authority Board of Directors.
The Authority is currently accepting letters
of interest from individuals who would like to serve on the Task Force.
Letters and resumes must be submitted by Jan. 31, 2003 to the SVSWA, Attn:
Task Force, 337 Melody Lane, Salinas, CA 93901.
“This Task Force will be instrumental
in accomplishing the goals and objectives of the Regional Solid Waste
Facilities Expansion Project and we’re excited about the motivation
and creative ideas these volunteers will bring to the process,”
says Stephen Johnson, operations manager for the Authority.
The Authority, formed in 1997, is a joint powers agency made
up of the cities of Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Salinas, Soledad
as well as the eastern half of unincorporated Monterey County. They promote
the environmental health of the Salinas Valley through planning, public
education and management of an innovative solid waste system. The Authority
