SVSWA ELECTS 2003 OFFICERS

     The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA) have elected officers for the 2003 calendar year.

     Monterey County Board of Supervisor Chairman Fernando Armenta was elected president, replacing Council member Ezechiel Banales of Greenfield. Councilwoman Janet Barnes of Salinas was elected vice president.

     The 2003 Board of Directors is comprised of the following representatives from Monterey County and each member city:
Lou Calcagno, Monterey County Board of Supervisors

Gloria De La Rosa, City of Salinas
Maria Giuriato, City of Salinas
Annie Moreno, City of Greenfield
Richard Ortiz, City of Soledad
Robert Tamez, City of King
George Worthy, City of Gonzales

     The Authority’s Recycling Advisory Committee has also appointed members for the coming year.

     The Recycling Committee, an ad-hoc committee of the Authority Board of Directors, will be composed of the following community leaders:

Peter Mora, Salinas Educator
MacGregor Eddy, Nurse & Peace Activist
Mark Wood, King City Educator
Vic Lanini, retired, agriculture
Judith Peterson, resident of Gonzales
Belinda Platts, Dole Fresh Foods
Robert Potteiger, retired correctional officer

     The monthly meetings of the SVSWA Board of Directors are open to the public and are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Gonzales City Council Chambers, 117 Fourth Street.

The Authority, formed in 1997, is a joint powers agency made up of the cities of Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Salinas, Soledad as well as the eastern half of unincorporated Monterey County. They promote the environmental health of the Salinas Valley through planning, public education and management of an innovative solid waste system.
