The Central Coast Recycling Media Coalition (CCRMC) has received a special commendation from the 2003 Collaborative Excellence Awards.

Salinas, CA

June 30, 2003

The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA) has been an integral member of the committee since 2001, which has showcased the many partnerships throughout Monterey County that have resulted in benefits to the residents and communities.

The SVSWA has aided the CCRMC in developing and distributing bi-lingual television and radio commercials on waste prevention and recycling throughout the tri-county area. Since the formation of the CCRMC, they have produced nine TV commercials, eight radio spots and aired over 750 TV and 1100 radio spots on local stations.

This joint approach to advertising is one of the few of its kind in the state of California and demonstrates how dollars for electronic advertising can be used to their greatest advantage in one media market. This collaborative structure of the CCRMC is a model for other jurisdictions to follow.

The CCRMC, who’s members include the Cities and Counties of Monterey, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey Regional Waste Management District, Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority and the private waste haulers, have realized many successful results by combining resources and fostering common goals.

The SVSWA is pleased to be a partner in this effort and look forward to continuing this successful regional media campaign in 2003/04.

The Authority, formed in 1997, is a joint powers agency made up of the cities of Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Salinas, Soledad as well as the eastern half of unincorporated Monterey County. They promote the environmental health of the Salinas Valley through planning, public education and management of an innovative solid waste system. The Authority can be reached at 755-1300 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday or on the web at www.svswa.org.
