SVSWA ELECTS 2004 BOARD OFFICERS

The Salinas Valley Solid Waste Authority (SVSWA) has elected officers for the 2004 calendar year.

Monterey County Board of Supervisor Fernando Armenta was elected president for a second term. Councilwoman Janet Barnes of Salinas was also re-elected vice president for a second year. Councilman George Worthy of Gonzales was elected alternate vice president.

The 2004 Board of Directors is comprised of the following representatives from Monterey County and each member city:

  • Lou Calcagno, Monterey County Board of Supervisors
  • Gloria De La Rosa, City of Salinas
  • Maria Giuriato, City of Salinas
  • Annie Moreno, City of Greenfield
  • Richard Ortiz, City of Soledad
  • Robert Tamez, City of King

The monthly meetings of the SVSWA Board of Directors are open to the public and are held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Gonzales City Council Chambers, 117 Fourth Street.

The Authority, formed in 1997, is a joint powers agency made up of the cities of Gonzales, Greenfield, King City, Salinas, Soledad as well as the eastern half of unincorporated Monterey County. They promote the environmental health of the Salinas Valley through planning, public education and management of an innovative solid waste system.
