The SVSWA has taken a series of steps to promote electronics recycling and ease the Salinas Valley’s landfills of obsolete electronic equipment. They have established an electronic e-waste program to collect, recycle and /or refurbish and redistribute the electronic equipment rather than disposing of it in the landfills.

The three SVSWA landfills (Crazy Horse Canyon, Salinas; Johnson Canyon, Gonzales; Jolon Road, King City; and the Madison Lane Transfer Station in Salinas) will accept computer systems, monitors and television sets of any age, working or not for the following fees:

CRTs & Television sets 21 inches and under diagonal $10.00
CRTs & Television sets over 21 inches diagonal $20.00
Keyboard, CPUs $ 1.00 each

All collected equipment will be distributed to electronic recyclers who have the know-how and the equipment to handle the hazardous materials, separate plastics from metals and reuse parts that still have a few gasps of life in them. These e-waste recyclers do not send e-waste overseas.
