Got CD's?


Don’t Landfill…..Don’t Burn

CD’s contain polycarbonate plastic and aluminum – These are both recyclable
materials.

Here are a few options for disposal of the little items.

Cds

  • music cds, CD-Roms, writable and writable/rewritable Cds

Tapes

  • music tapes, 8-track tapes and videotapes

Computer Diskettes

  • 3-1/2” diskettes unfortunately, they won’t take the big 5-1/4” floppy disks

Packaging

  • audiotape, videotape and CD cases

The floppies and tapes are erased and sold to a vendor that separates them into their raw materials and sells those materials. The Cds and CD cases are ground and reprocessed into products like CD holders and office items that are then sold at Office Depot.

  • 20.6 million personal computers became obsolete in the U.S. in 2000
  • By 2007, there will be a half billion obsolete computers in the U.S,
  • 3.2 million tons of computer equipment are currently in landfills
  • Only 11% of those obsolete computers were recycled.
  • CRT contain lead to shield users from radiation and this led could pose an environmental hazard when used CRTs are incinerated.
