Illegal dumping of scrap tires is a serious problem that occurs throughout the Salinas Valley. These scrap tire stockpiles are unsightly, pose a threat to the environment and also cost taxpayers and private property owners hundreds of thousands of dollars each year to clean up. Accomplishments

One of the paramount goals of the Waste Authority’s Tire Program has been the cleaning up of illegal scrap tire stockpiles throughout the Salinas Valley. Through our tire pile grants we have been very successful in working toward this goal.

To date, The Waste Authority has successfully recovered over 100,000 thousand scrap tires in the Valley.

Scrap Tire Projects - Tire Amnesty Days

The Waste Tire Collection events have been extremely successful in the past and have received a positive response from County residents. During our events, residents are permitted to deliver scrap tires free of charge to approved collection sites.

Because of the strong level of participation by residents and businesses, we have actually exceeded the predicted amount of tires collected at our previous Amnesty Days.
